Strategy, balance, and the game of mind

Chess is a symbol of deliberate strategy and subtle balance, embodied in a striking volumetric sculpture for large interiors. Conceived and crafted by Skyform Studio, the concept immediately sets an intellectual tone for the space, blending product design aesthetics with a recognizable cultural code.

Idea & philosophy

Reinterpreting the classic chessboard as a three-dimensional cube, we let wooden pieces appear to burst through its faces, creating the effect of an explosion of logic and tactics. It is a metaphor for the clash of ideas, the movement of thought, and the unexpected moves that lead to victory — in play, business, life, and art.

Form & composition

At the center is a metal cube clad in natural wood. The faces read as fragments of a chess grid, but the shift into three dimensions turns a familiar plane into a dynamic spatial construct. Pieces on different levels emerge from the planes, creating a sense of impulse and “frozen motion.”

Materials & build

• Cube: steel frame, cladding in fine natural wood.
• Pieces: handcrafted wood with metal accents for subtle highlights and tactile contrast.
• Finish: premium lacquers/oils for wood; durable protective coatings for metal.

Light & technology

Linear LED edge lighting is integrated along the cube’s perimeters, making it appear to float. In the evening and at night, the light gently outlines the silhouette and rhythm of the composition, enhancing depth and plasticity. Static and programmed modes are available (warm/neutral whites).

Placement & scenarios

Designed for lobbies, atriums, galleries, and halls, the installation becomes a central art feature. It functions as a natural point of attraction and a photo hotspot, reinforcing an identity that is intellectual, contemporary, and refined.
