Client’s Task
To create a new art object that would:
- emphasize the multifaceted and dynamic identity of Cleveland;
- become part of the architectural landscape during the day and a bright symbol of contemporary art at night;
- serve as a point of attraction and inspiration for both residents and visitors;
- demonstrate that a modern city can communicate with its people and tourists through art that inspires and creates new meanings.
Our Solution
- Form and Concept. The crystal as a metaphor for the city’s multifaceted identity.
- Lighting Scenarios. Integrated RGB lighting and perforated panels create expressive patterns of light and shadow that shift throughout the day.
- Environmental Interaction. By day, the reflective upper section engages with the sky and architecture; by night, the crystal transforms into a luminous symbol of contemporary art.
- Materials and Execution. Self-supporting perforated stainless-steel panels, coated with automotive paint and protected with automotive varnish in the city’s corporate colors, ensuring durability and resistance to weather conditions.
Result
- Cleveland Crystal became a vivid symbol of the city, uniting Cleveland’s past, present, and future in a single art object.
- The installation strengthened the cultural identity and appeal of the space, boosting visitor engagement.
- The lighting scenarios ensure a 24/7 effect: a sculptural landmark by day and a media-art object by night.
- The project demonstrated that contemporary art is an essential language of communication between the city and its people.
