Task

For our Chicago showroom, we set ourselves an ambitious goal — to create a next-generation kinetic installation that combines engineering precision, light, and artistic vision.
The installation had to become the visual centerpiece of the space, a striking example of Skyform Studio technologies, and a source of inspiration for visitors.
It was important for us that anyone seeing the installation would feel a sense of wonder and immediately want to capture its motion on their phone.

Our Solution

We designed a unique kinetic sculpture consisting of 92 three-dimensional metal polygons.

• Each module is equipped with a kinetic winch and a specially designed luminaire.
• Polygonal elements are laser-cut with fine patterns that enhance the play of light and shadow.
• Each module weighs only 800 grams and is assembled by hand from 24 individual parts.

Color selection became a key design decision:

• We chose a copper finish, which stands out elegantly against the black ceiling.
• This tone is not overly bright but adds depth and a refined, premium look to the composition.

We developed a new type of luminaire with strong light output and advanced heat dissipation. This ensured that the modules appear voluminous and radiant not only in the evening but also during daylight hours.

Controlled by custom software, the installation performs a synchronized “aerial ballet” — smooth transformations and ever-changing figures.
We created three unique scenarios with durations of 2, 5, and 15 minutes, adaptable to different events and moods.

Thus, the “Cosmic Ballet” became a living artwork where motion, light, and geometry exist in harmony.

Result

The “Cosmic Ballet” kinetic installation has become the symbol of the Skyform Studio showroom in Chicago and a new reference point in contemporary light art.
