In 2019, Skyform Studio created Symbol of Ukraine — a contemporary public-art installation that reinterprets the classical state emblem. At 11 meters tall, it serves as a powerful urban landmark. More than a sign, it is the voice of the country, bridging historical memory with a vision for the future.

Philosophy & meaning

A modern reading of the Trident, the work fuses past, present, and future into a single form. The golden tone recalls the official palette, the warmth of the sun, and Ukraine’s vast wheat fields. It embodies freedom, dignity, and strength, meant to inspire and connect people with their roots.

Speaking the language of today, the installation combines dynamic lighting, innovative materials, and potential multimedia integration — reflecting a Ukraine that is strong, independent, and bold.

Artistic concept & details

The 11 m scale is intentional: it emphasizes the emblem’s significance, making it visible from afar and impossible to ignore. The golden finish amplifies historical associations and literally makes the shape shine in sunlight, turning the Trident into a beacon of identity.

Side panels can display “My Kyiv” — a tribute to the city where this version was conceived. In other cities the wording adapts (e.g., “My Lviv,” “My Odesa”), creating a personal bond with the local community. Integrated wheat motifssymbolize fertile land, peace, and hard work.

Light & technology

After dark, dynamic lighting animates the work, revealing volume and building a luminous stage that draws people in. Lighting scenarios can be tailored to national holidays, commemorations, and city events, turning the installation into a media platform at the city’s heart.

Fabricated from stainless steel with protective coating, the structure ensures durability and resistance to weather and wear — a material choice echoing the resilience of the Ukrainian people.

Interactivity

Built-in sensors respond to presence and interaction. Around the piece, foot-activated pads trigger special light and multimedia sequences, bringing the artwork to life and engaging visitors in the performance.

Future & scalability

Designed to be replicable, the project can be adapted for cities across Ukraine by changing the city lettering and lighting programs, forming a symbolic network that unites the country. Thanks to dynamic light and multimedia options, it remains current and responsive to the times.
