Client’s task

Create a new art object that:

• will highlight the diversity and dynamics of Cleveland;
• during the day it will become part of the architectural landscape, and at night – a bright symbol of modern art;
• will become a point of attraction and inspiration for residents and guests of the city;
• will show that a modern city can communicate with its residents and tourists through art that can inspire and create new meanings.

Our solution

• Form and concept. Crystal as a metaphor for the multifaceted identity of the city.
• Light scenarios. Built-in RGB lighting and perforated panels create expressive patterns of light and shadow that change throughout the day.
• Interactivity of the environment. During the day, the reflective top interacts with the sky and architecture; at night, the crystal transforms into a radiant symbol of contemporary art.
• Materials and execution. Perforated self-supporting stainless steel panels, painted and protected with automotive clearcoat in the city’s corporate colors, provide durability and weather resistance.

Result

• “Cleveland Crystal” has become a vibrant symbol of the city, uniting the past, present and future of Cleveland in one art object.
• The installation enhanced the cultural identity and appeal of the space, stimulating visitor flow.
• Light scenarios provide a 24/7 effect: during the day – an architectural sculpture, at night – a media art object.
• The project demonstrated that contemporary art is an important language of communication between the city and its residents.
• The city received more 10,000 posts on social networks with photo and video installations created by residents and guests, which gave a powerful PR effect.
