Client’s task

The gallery owner contacted us with a request:

I want a kinetic installation that will enhance the atmosphere of the gallery, create a sense of unusualness for visitors and help us be remembered. However, it should not compete with the paintings that we present and sell. The shapes should be modern and sophisticated.

Our solution

We proposed a concept that harmoniously complements the gallery space and emphasizes its uniqueness, while remaining in balance with the paintings.

• The ceiling was repainted black to create contrast and highlight the spectacular elements.
• To enhance the accent, a frame made of polished stainless steel was added, defining clear boundaries of the installation.
• The shapes of the elements are made in the form meteorites , symbolizing the energy and movement of space.
• Each element is created from art glass with built-in luminaires that allow you to program dynamic lighting scenarios.

The final composition occupied an area 6 × 6 meters and turned it on 64 elements , located in an 8 × 8 matrix. This solution turned out to be optimal from both an aesthetic and an engineering point of view.

Dynamic light and motion programs

Two scenarios were developed for the installation:

1. Daily program
   • The kinetic sculpture comes to life for one minute, forming fluid shapes accompanied by soft color changes.
   • Then the meteorites freeze for 30 minutes, turning into a light sculpture, inside which the light shimmers from element to element.
   • Every half hour the installation awakens again, creating a new impression of living and constantly changing art.
2. Program for special events
   • Designed for openings, presentations and special events.
   • Within 15 minutes the installation changes shape 22 times , and kinetic movement is accompanied by expressive lighting effects.

Result

The project was completed in 6 months and fully met the client’s expectations.

• Visitors receive unique art experience , in which movement, light and art glass merge.
• The installation makes Gallery Arroyo Grande a place where contemporary art and technology meet in harmony and create new emotions.
