Public Art
A Symbol of Georgian Winemaking Traditions
The “Wines of Georgia” Fountain is a large-scale water installation developed by Skyform Studio as a sculptural tribute to Georgian winemaking. The project reflects the deep cultural and historical connection between Georgia and wine, transforming public space into a powerful artistic landmark with a strong national identity. This is not just a classical fountain — it is an architectural metaphor for centuries-old traditions, craftsmanship, and the dedication of Georgian winemakers whose knowledge has been passed down from generation to generation.
Concept and Artistic Vision
The central composition of the fountain consists of 10 massive wine barrels, traditionally used for aging Georgia’s renowned wines. From these barrels flows a насыщенный red stream of water symbolizing wine pouring through time, connecting Georgia’s past and present. The water then cascades into 12 traditional Georgian clay vessels, creating the illusion of flowing wine before reaching the main basin. The choreography of water movement is designed to convey continuity, rhythm, and the living spirit of tradition. The fountain is surrounded by 16 foam jets, imitating the effect of wine being poured from a bottle. This detail enhances the sense of motion and adds expressive dynamism to the composition.
The structure rests on a base made of 1,000 inverted wine bottles, illuminated with specialized lighting to create a magical glow reminiscent of a wine cellar atmosphere. This element symbolizes the scale and richness of Georgia’s wine industry. Each barrel features engraved copper plates bearing the names of the oldest Georgian wineries and wine brands, transforming the fountain into not only an artistic attraction but also a historical monument to Georgian winemaking heritage.
Architectural Expression
The fountain bowl, measuring 11.5 meters in diameter, is clad in natural wood traditionally used for wine barrels. A metal rim accentuates the structure and reinforces its architectural clarity. The overall exterior design evokes the image of a giant wine barrel partially embedded in Georgian soil — a powerful symbol of deeply rooted traditions and the monumental yet often unseen efforts of Georgian winemakers.
