"Wings of the Valley"
Kinetic art installation (concept)
Concept – abstract image
Project “Wings of the Valley” embodied in abstract form: this is a large-scale kinetic art installation measuring 8.2 × 5.1 m, created from 44 movable aluminum elements with gold plating. The work has become new point of attraction for the city , symbolizing outstretched wings soaring over the landscape of the valley.
Inspiration
It is here, where the first train arrived in 1885 and revitalized North Yakima, that today the city spreads its wings to the future. “Wings of the Valley” express the soul of the region through the play of light and the movement of the wind.
In the heart of Yakima
- Born from light. Yakima began with a dream – a railroad connecting the desert to the world. Today, golden wings continue this line, turning innovation into visible contemporary art , noticeable from afar.
- Dance of abundance. The flickering light reflects the eternal rhythm of nature: seed, sprout, blossom, fruit. Golden rays rise like the scent of apples, fall like grape leaves and swirl like cherry petals—the poetry of the seasons in motion.
- Breath of the Valley. The winds that have shaped this landscape for millennia now orchestrate a symphony of light. Every impulse brings the sculpture to life, as if the valley breathes with it.
- Yakima Lighthouse. At night, the art object turns into a shining constellation – a symbol of where tradition and innovation meet.
Kinetic architecture
- Geometry of movement. A system of 44 independent elements creates endless patterns: from diverging rays to complex figures.
- Symbolism of forms. The golden elements represent solar energy, transforming the desert into an oasis. Their movement echoes the flight of eagles and the lightness of petals in the wind.
- Poetry of interaction. The sculpture responds to the natural winds of the valley, transforming invisible currents into a visible choreography of light.
Philosophy
- From rails to heaven. Just as the railway once gave life to the city, so today “Wings of the Valley” lift him into the sphere public art .
- Choreography of nature. The movement is provided by 66 winches, creating smooth waves – the rhythms of the flight of birds, flowering gardens and vineyards.
- Day and night. During the day, the golden surfaces reflect the sun, and at night, 10 light cannons transform the sculpture into a shining landmark.
Cultural significance
“Wings of the Valley” is not just a decoration, but a cultural symbol that connects the history of the railway with the modern illuminated public art where tradition and innovation form one whole.
