"Seagulls"
Kinetic installation
The Kinetic Art of Flight
“Seagulls” is a large-scale kinetic installation by Skyform Studio, created specifically for airports and major public spaces. The project embodies a sense of freedom, lightness, and continuous movement, transforming terminals into dynamic artistic environments. This kinetic sculpture featuring soaring seagulls creates an atmosphere of inspiration and harmony, reminding passengers of the magic of air travel and the boundless openness of the sky.
Concept and Vision
Seagulls symbolize freedom, air, and eternal motion. Within an airport environment — where every journey begins with a dream of new horizons — the installation becomes a poetic reflection of flight itself. The interactive kinetic composition comes to life, recreating the natural dynamics of birds in motion. The seagulls glide gracefully through the terminal space, forming an aerial ocean filled with movement, light, and subtle shadow play. The space is no longer static — it begins to breathe.
Dynamics and Movement
The installation includes 66 kinetic seagulls, each suspended in the air and programmed to replicate natural wing motion. Each bird features a 1-meter wingspan, while precision-engineered kinetic mechanisms ensure fluidity, synchronization, and elegance of movement. The control system is programmed with 20 unique motion sequences, creating the effect of a living sky that continuously transforms throughout a 20-minute performance cycle. Each program introduces a new spatial atmosphere.
Technical Specifications
Installation dimensions: 35 × 12 meters, adaptable to various architectural configurations and atrium volumes. The kinetic mechanisms allow vertical movement up to 5 meters, delivering a realistic sensation of birds in flight.
The structure is engineered with a focus on:
- precise kinetic performance
- structural durability
- operational safety
- integrated artistic lighting
The built-in lighting system enhances the visual impact both during the day and at night, emphasizing form and movement.
Spatial Impact
“Seagulls” is more than a kinetic sculpture — it is a spatial landmark that defines the visual identity of airports and public interiors.
The installation integrates seamlessly into:
- airport terminals
- waiting areas
- central atriums
It amplifies the sensation of flight, evokes emotion, and becomes a captivating focal point visitors naturally gravitate toward and photograph.
